Where Two Kingdoms Meet

Single Channel Video Installation
Duration 5 minutes

The UK is home to ancient temperate rainforests, thousands of years old often referred to as the lost rainforests. Here two worlds meet - forest and fungi - supporting and visually mirroring each other, mycelial networks spread like the tree canopy above. This underestimated symbiosis drives all life on earth. Plants, soil, animals, fungi and microbes return lost carbon into the soil on a global scale to begin to heal our planet. Once covering 20% of the western coastline, they are rapidly dwindling, now covering just 1% of our country. These rare and biodiverse ecosystems contain epiphytes - plants that grow on plants, mosses, lichens, polypody ferns and gnarly twisted oak trees and a bounty of wildlife.
